Tips for Looking Fabulous in Your Wedding Photos

Your wedding is one of the most special days of your life. In the past, weddings were captured on only one or two rolls of film. Now, weddings are captured from every angle …even if you’re camera-shy, there are lots of ways to subtly change your posture to ensure you and your new spouse look fabulous in your photos.

As a professional wedding photographer  based in Toronto, I will ensure you look amazing in your photos and guide you into natural looking poses that will create images that we are both proud of.

In case you are an ambitious Bride and would to do what you can to prep – here are some useful tips I recommend for looking your best in photos on your wedding day:

Practice, Practice, Practice

Practicing your poses in front of the mirror might feel silly, but the more you get used to it, the more flawless you’ll appear in photos. The Power Pose, which consists of tilting your hips 45 degrees away from the camera, putting your weight on your back foot, and elongating your front leg, makes you appear lighter, taller, and balanced. It’s important to practice the pose on each side, and to remember to flash your best smile.  I will make sure to remind you to keep your shoulders down and neck long as well!

Consider Makeup

When choosing makeup palettes for the bride and bridesmaids, less is always more. Heavy, dark makeup around the eyes tends to make facial features appear smaller. Conversely, lighter, more natural-looking palettes make eyes, lips, and cheeks pop. Cameras easily pick up yellows and oranges, so be sure not to go overboard on the bronzer or self-tanner.

Relax

Weddings can be stressful. To look fabulous in your wedding pictures, it’s important to let that stress go. Remember to take deep breaths, relax your shoulders, and soften your brow. A great way to reset your face is simply to close your eyes and inhale deeply….also try your best to get a good night’s sleep the night before your Wedding Day!

Avoid the Double Chin

To steer clear of the double chin in photographs, move your head forward slightly by elongating your neck – I like to call this the “Turtle”. Lift your chin and press your tongue to the roof of your mouth. This gesture is subtle, and shouldn’t hurt or strain your neck in any way.

Expose Your Arms

No matter the size of your biceps, I assure you, your arms are beautiful. Many women believe that keeping their arms tightly at their sides or putting them behind their backs will make them appear smaller. This method has the opposite effect, and can make your shoulders look broader and your arms shapeless. To get the best out of your arms, hold your bouquet in the center with both hands and tilt your elbows forward ever so slightly. You can also put one hand on your hip to accentuate a nice shape to your arm.

With these few tips in your repertoire, looking fabulous in your wedding photos will be easy. For more tips and tricks, or for a personalized consultation with a Toronto wedding photographer, contact me today at Corina V. Photography. I look forward to meeting you!
